The Wiz Director Sidney Lumet

Sidney Lumet (1924–2011) was one of the most respected and prolific American film directors, known for his intense dramas, moral themes, and skillful direction of actors. He started his work in film at the age of 4 working with his father as a regular gig on a radio soap opera called The Grandfather from Brownsville. His career however, spanned over 50 years, during which he directed more than 40 films. Lumet is the director of the 1978 film adaptation of The Wiz, a reimagining of The Wizard of Oz featuring an all-Black cast and an urban setting inspired by New York City.

Intimate Apparel Writer Lynn Nottage

Lynn Nottage is a Black American woman who is a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, screenwriter, and installation artist. She is commonly known for incorporating themes of gender roles, economics, race, and identity within her pieces. Nottage is the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama twice, she is also a professor at Columbia University. She was born and raised in the Boerum Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Lynn pursued her studies and obtained an M.F.A degree in playwriting at Yale School of Drama in the year 1989.
